Care for the leather. Keep the character.
Leather changes with wear, climate, and use. The safest routine is simple: remove surface dust, dry moisture naturally, store the piece correctly, and use only products suited to its specific leather and finish. Product-specific instructions always take priority over this general guide.
After wearing
Hang jackets and vests on a wide, supportive hanger and empty heavy pockets. Wipe dry surface dust with a clean, soft cloth. Let the piece air before storage; do not seal warm or damp leather inside a wardrobe or plastic bag.
If it gets wet
Blot excess moisture gently — do not rub. Reshape the garment and let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators, hair dryers, and direct sunlight. Do not apply conditioner until the leather is completely dry.
Cleaning & conditioning
Never machine wash, soak, bleach, or tumble dry leather. Confirm that any cleaner or conditioner suits the exact leather type, then test a small hidden area first. Use less product rather than more; over-conditioning can darken or soften leather unevenly.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry, ventilated place on a wide padded or wooden hanger. Use a breathable garment bag for long-term storage and leave space around the piece. Avoid plastic covers, prolonged folding, heat, and direct sunlight.
Specialist materials
Suede, nubuck, shearling, perforated leather, painted finishes, and heavily stained pieces need specialist methods. Do not apply standard leather cream or oil unless it is approved for that material. Contact MOTOGRIP GEAR or a professional leather cleaner before treatment.
Material first
One routine does not fit every leather.
Cowhide, lambskin, goatskin, suede, nubuck, and finished leathers react differently to moisture and care products. Check the product page or care label first. If the leather type or finish is unclear, send us clear photos before cleaning or conditioning.
